Weekend Schedule
Roots of Vinyasa Friday, June 22, 6:30 – 9pm
Every Vinyasa that you do has a history....All of the yoga that we practice has a source. Vinyasa practices are all linked to the same history and lineage. In this 2.5 hour class we will investigate the relationship between the most popular yoga in the west and that source. We will look at the fundamentals of vinyasa and begin to build a practice from the Roots.
Led Primary Plus Saturday, June 23, 9am – 12pm
The Primary Series is a lifelong practice. It is Yoga Chikitsa, a yogic cleansing program that detoxifies the body, realigns the structure and begins to focus and soothe the mind. In this three hours we will do a FULL Primary series class, incorporating the connection between traditional Ashtanga Yoga practice and its connection to Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras. We will explore Ashtau Anga - the eight limbs of yoga through meditation, chanting and asana practice.
Breath Bandhas &Drishti Saturday, June 23, 2pm - 4pm
These three practices are the foundations of the Ashtanga Vinyasa system. We must understand them to incorporate them and this can take years of consistent effort. In this class we will explore the traditional pranayama teachings which were passed down by Pattabhi Jois. We will look at practical ways to cultivate and develop a strong understanding the bandhas and how this is applied within the practice - looking closely at jump throughs, jump backs and even headstands as examples of places in the practice that demand strong bandhas.
The Mysore Method Sunday, June 24, 10am–1pm
Virtually all yoga classes in the west are taught as led classes. As western students of yoga we unfamiliar with teaching or learning any other way. However Ashtanga Yoga has always been taught utilizing the Mysore Method, developed by Pattabhi Jois. Here you will receive individual assistance and you will work at a pace that is appropriate for you. If you are challenged by an injury you will be guided to work in a way that will heal your injury and increase your vitality. All levels and experience are welcome, however you must have attended some or all of the other workshops to attend.
Early Bird $140 for 4 workshop, or $40/workshop.
$155 for all 4 workshops, or $45/workshop after 6/8/12
